Family Planning

Integration of family planning and HIV services offers opportunities to reach more people with life-saving services such as contraception, HIV Prevention counseling, and antiretroviral therapy. Addressing reproductive health needs in a holistic manner strengthens the impact of both family planning and HIV services.Since majority of new HIV infections are sexually transmitted and the same people at risk of unintended pregnancy are also at risk of HIV infection, integrated programs can give women, youth, and men as well, the information and services they need to protect themselves and their partners from unintended pregnancies, HIV, and other sexually transmitted infections.

Following a Ministry of Health initiative to integrate family planning and HIV care and treatment services in Kenya, use of modern methods of contraception, including condoms, increased significantly among female HIV care and treatment clients.
