Dr. Wanjiru Mukoma has been the Executive Director and Secretary to the Board of LVCT Health since 2014. She holds a PhD in Psychiatry and Mental Health from University of Cape Town.
In her capacity, Dr. Wanjiru is responsible for translating LVCT Health’s strategic direction, including vision, mission and values into effective strategies and outputs. She provides management and oversight for research, national and international policy engagements, and institutional monitoring and evaluation.
She has extensive experience in HIV research, programming, and policy development as well as management and leadership. She has great interest in organizational development and sustainability. She is passionate about building capacity for local solutions to Africa’s challenges, promoting the health and wellbeing of young people and harnessing the creativity and energy of youth and technology to drive change.
Dr. Wanjiru has published more than 15 articles in peer reviewed journals as first or co-author, authored four book chapters and presented at many national and international conferences. She regularly reviews manuscripts for various journals including Health Education Research and as well as for national reports, documents and policies on HIV in Kenya.
She’s a great believer that good leadership must embrace the certainty of failure in order to encourage and support innovation. Under her leadership, LVCT Health is committed to having no more new HIV infections in the regions we work and the populations that we serve.
