LVCT Health staff donate to the COVID-19 vulnerable communities
LVCT Health staff came together to support the most vulnerable beneficiaries within our projects after the first case of the COVID-19 pandemic was announced in Kenya and subsequent safety measures. The staff undertook a funds drive, which led to the contribution of money and foodstuff collected within all our offices across our four regions.
A committee was then appointed to identify the most vulnerable beneficiaries within the informal settlements whose livelihoods had been adversely affected by the pandemic. The contributions were then used to purchase essential foodstuff like cooking oil, maize, beans, rice, sugar, maize and wheat flour.
These foodstuffs were then packaged into shopping bags and distributed to over 500 vulnerable people identified. While this is a small number compared to the more than 100,000 people who are reached by our services annually, LVCT Health is undertaking other initiatives to support the counties and health workers by providing some personal protective clothing. We have also approached some donors who have accepted to support this initiative by either giving money or foodstuff.
While flagging off the first batch of foodstuff, Our Executive Director Dr. Lilian Otiso called on all well-wishers to donate more to assist the vulnerable who have had their livelihoods affected.
“Your donations will go along way in saving lives and preventing new HIV infections.”
