Between June 2014 and December 2017, LVCT Health implemented a demonstration project on how daily oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) can be delivered as part of an HIV combination prevention package among young women, female sex workers and men who have sex with men in a real life setting in Kenya. The project screened, enrolled and initiated participants on oral PrEP in four private and two public health facilities that were already reaching targeted populations with comprehensive HIV/SRH services.
In 2017, the project lessons informed the development of the Framework for the Implementation of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis of HIV in Kenya. The framework target audience include policy makers, national and county governments, health program managers, regulatory authorities, health providers, potential PrEP users and the general population. It provides guidance on the roll out of PrEP in Kenya.
