Our team from USAID Stawisha Pwani joined the Department of Health Services – Mombasa County for their inaugural annual scientific health research conference under the theme: “Empowering Health Research in Mombasa County”.

USAID Stawisha Pwani was a Diamond sponsor for the two-day event that brought together healthcare teams and practitioners across Kenya.Our project showcased many aspects of the county partnership, including LVCT Health’s work in HIV care, prevention and treatment, including evidence that has informed  its work for key and priority populations in Kenya.

Participants at the conference deliberated on various health matters and strategies for response. The issues revolved around population health and dynamics, communicable and non-communicable diseases, mental and substance/neuro-cognitive research, quality health systems and service delivery

They exchanged ideas, research findings, and experiences while discussing the role of technology and other innovations in enhancing public health outcomes.

Dr. Patrick Oyaro, the Chief of the Party for USAID Stawisha Pwani, gave proposals to help researchers meet a clear goal in the next five years. He called for more investments in research. “Let’s endeavour to involve the youth and have regular meetings to share knowledge in HIV response,’ said Oyaro.

Dr. Oyaro was recognized for his tireless effort towards the conference success. Leonard Soo, Tom Marwa, Onesimus Musau were awarded for their contribution as reviewers of the abstracts presented at the conference.The discussions and collaborations that took place at the conference will undoubtedly lead to the development of sustainable solutions in healthcare service delivery not only in the county but in Kenya and beyond.
