Webinar Announcement: Doing Things Differently – Effective Linkage of Communities with Health Systems in PCNs to Achieve UHC

On Tuesday, December 10th, 2024, LVCT Health will host an important webinar titled “Doing Things Differently: Effective Linkage of Communities with Health Systems in PCNs to Achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC).” This event is part of preparations for this year’s Universal Health Coverage Day.

The discussion will focus on how effective linkages between communities and health systems can transform healthcare delivery within Primary Care Networks (PCNs) to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC). UHC is a critical component of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 3.8), which seeks to provide quality healthcare services to all persons without creating financial hardship.

Additionally, the panel will explore the concepts of PCNs and UHC within the Kenyan context while drawing lessons from successful implementations of PCNs in other countries.

Recently, Kenya rolled out PCNs as part of its efforts to achieve UHC. These networks integrate communities with lower-level and higher-level healthcare facilities using a hub-and-spoke model, ensuring comprehensive delivery of preventive, promotive, and curative services.

Community Health Providers (CHPs) have been equipped with CHP Kits and receive a monthly stipend to enhance their preventive and promotive roles in the community while also facilitating referrals to health facilities within PCNs.

The webinar will also share insights from the NIHR C-it-Du-it study, higlighting how strengthening linkages and community-facility Work Improvement Teams (WITS) can enhance Primary Health Care (PHC) and advance Universal Health Coverage (UHC). The C-it-Du-it project, implemented by LVCT Health, KEMRI, LSTM, and Homa Bay County, focuses on strengthening community-facility linkages and utilizing data by Work Improvement Teams (WITs) that include both community and facility members, with the aim of improving Antenatal Care (ANC) outcomes.

The objectives of the webinar session are:

  • To discuss the concepts of Primary Health Care (PHC) / Primary Care Networks (PCN) and Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in the Kenyan context.
  • To share lessons from successful PHC/PCN implementations around the globe.
  • To explore the critical role of communities in achieving UHC.
  • To develop strategies for sustainable financing of PHC/PCNs at the county level.
