The fight against Covid-19 in Migori County has received a major boost after the Migori County Referral Hospital received a donation of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM).

The consignment consisting of 320 boxes of surgical face masks, 166 boxes of latex examination gloves, 160 boxes of sterile surgical gloves, 1733 pieces of disposable aprons and 480 pieces of hand sanitizers among others were received by the County Health Management Team led by Director of Medical Services Dr Dan Ochiel, Director of Public Health Dr Kenneth Ochieng’ Ombogo and Deputy Director Public Health Dr Tom Odhong’ who thanked LSTM for the continued support they have received from the organization in the fight against the novel coronavirus. They also called for a strengthened partnership moving forward so as to enhance the health system in Migori County.

Handing over the consignment, LVCT Health Southern Regional Coordinator Stephen Rading’ said the PPEs were meant for the MCRH isolation unit to support healthcare workers in the fight against covid-19. Speaking on Wednesday, during the exercise, Rading’ said that LVCT Health and its partners were supporting the County Referral Hospital with commodities so that the county flattens the covid-19 curve that has been on the rise in the recent past.

A similar consignment has also been delivered to God-Kwer Sub-County Hospital, Nyamaraga Sub-County Hospital and Arombe Dispensary.

Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) UK mobilized funds from the British Citizens through the Bump It Forward Campaign to  support with provision of PPE in the Sub-Saharan Africa and Kenya is opportune to be part of this support. Other counties that have benefited from the Ksh 6.8 million donation are Uasin Gishu, Vihiga, Kilifi, Taita Taveta, Muranga and Garissa counties.
